Saw 3 wolves on M-38 on the way home from a Knight of Columbus meeting in L'anse a month ago. I was only going about 40 to 45 mph because of snow was coming down and was pretty slippery. Was just outside Nisula getting ready to make my turn when I saw one run across the road in front of me. I thought it was a deer at first. I hit the brakes and coasted. There on the right hand side of the road on a small drive or 2 track were two more. They just stood there and looked at me as I rolled by. I stopped and turned around and they ran across the road into a field. It was the first time I ever saw them although the wife and I had heard them several times at night during the summer when the windows are open. They were big buggers.

I have had a pair on my game camera. Opening morning of deer season I saw one chasing some deer.

My mother was driving home one night and nearly hit one on the highway, and saw it drop something. She went back to look and it was a fawn head still wet.

I had several wolf sightings while ice fishing this past winter on Lake Huron. They come out on the ice about 75 to 100 yards from you then they look at you like you are the next item on their kill list. Next year I think that I will be carrying my .32 winchester. Any get too close for comfort I wizz the first shot over their head. The second shot well I have never missed on the second shot. I sure could have fun with the coyotes with the old iron sight 32 at 250 to 400 yards. Mabey with a little luck I could get a couple

I found out how human shy they are this weekend. With all of the smelt fishermen and campfires at the mouth of the Carp River. Approximately 1/4 mile upstream from all of the smelt fishermen I found a lone set of fresh wolf tracks in the snow. Not that this wolf imposed any kind of a threat to any of the smelt dippers but it certainly was not afraid of them. It also makes you wonder what is behind you when you are steelhead fishing. If a dog were to venture off from one of the campers down there and does not come back, you might get an idea where it went to.
